Who We Are

The Journey Church is a caring community of believers who practically and creatively demonstrate the love of God, creating a culture that reflects Jesus Christ, where members passionately pursue full devotion to Jesus, and where authentic people are developing and using their gifts and resources to enhance the lives of people and to grow the family of God.

The Journey Church has Sunday classes in the Pathway Building at 9:00 a.m. and for worship at 10:30 a.m. The dress is casual, the atmosphere is relaxed, the music is excellent, reaching across all generations and the teaching honors the timeless nature of God’s Holy Word.

Our Pastor, Jim Day, along with his wife, Barbara of 55 years, is helping guide us as we determine the next steps to take after our worship center was destroyed by arson.

We were able to remodel a modular building as a temporary worship center and have remodeled our PATHWAY building for office and classroom space.

The people of the Journey are warm, loving and welcoming and our worship Team provides meaningful music week after week.

Please join us as we continue to help grow the kingdom of God and to bring His message of forgiveness and salvation to the people of Sonora.

Our mission is to make disciples of Christ who make disciples of Christ who…

Love God

We will effectively reach unchurched and unbelieving people, with a goal that they experience God’s transforming power in their lives.

Matt 28:18-20 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” NIV

The Journey Church believes that the Great Commission as outlined by Christ in Matthew 28, is also a great commandment. As part of that commission, we support several missionaries and agencies.

Financial support enables them to publish and mail these important booklets to thousands of dedicated readers

All Nations - Multiplying disciples on college campuses through the local church

Missionary Steve York is married to Janelle, and they have two children. Steve is founder of ALL NATIONS DISCIPLESHIP MOVEMENT. Steve is a living example of Matthew 28. He has developed effective campus ministries across California, has witnessed for Christ, been a disciple maker at many colleges, and has trained leaders to witness, disciple and train others on many campuses as well. He also faithfully serves in his own local church. How grateful we are knowing that many of our schools have an effective witness solely because Steve is a faithful servant who has trained many faithful servants.

Sewing Sisters

Mark 9:42-43 “But whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were thrown into the sea. NKJV

Our own Sewing Sisters is a group of dedicated ladies who faithfully come together twice each month to visit and to sew. They have adopted this county agency which is responsible for the safety and welfare of children and youth in our county. Whenever a minor faces a trauma or tragedy, Social Services is there to help. Sewing Sisters provide beautiful homemade quilts, along with a teddy bear, backpacks, personal hygiene items and fun activity books and supplies when these youngsters need them most. This ministry is funded by our missions budget which the ladies utilize to offset costs for these meaningful gifts for kids who are desperately in need.

Growing Healthy Churches is an association of churches working together in covenant to help advance the Kingdom of God by pursuing the Great Commission and the Great Commandment.

GHC provides education, guidance and support to local Pastors and churches when they need equipping, or assistance with seeking a Pastor or solving a problem. They also assemble pastors together in “Cluster Groups” where they can share ideas in an atmosphere of caring and fellowship.

ETHNOS 360 Bible Institute

MIKE and KRISTI DAY - ETHNOS 360 Bible Institute (Formerly New Tribes Bible Institute)

Mike and Kristi have two children and serve at the ETHNOS BIBLE INSTITUTE, where adults of all ages are trained to minister to unreached people groups, thus the previous name of New Tribes Mission. These missionaries go into tribes where no missionary has gone before. They must learn the language, develop an alphabet, and then seek to translate the Bible into that language, normally a fifteen year project.

This obviously takes skills not taught in liberal arts colleges, so the various campuses of Ethnos 360 train potential missionaries not only in Bible, but language arts, how to understand tribal cultures, Bible Translation and even how to live among indigenous people groups.

Mike is Admissions Director for the college and Kristi volunteers as manager of the on-campus coffee shop.
